Fitness: An Underrated Source of Hope & Empowerment for Cancer Patients.
“Just rest” … “Take it easy.” … “Go easy on yourself.”
These are the words that countless cancer patients hear day after day. And while rest is certainly important, sometimes it’s the last thing a cancer patient needs.
Fitness-even if it’s just a slow walk on a treadmill-gives cancer patients an outlet for the stress of painful treatments. It releases endorphins which elevate mood, and lift the spirits. And it lets patients focus on positivity and progress.
When your sense of agency and self-control are taken away by surgeries, radiation, and the sterile, cold environment of a hospital… Sometimes patients need an activity where they feel in charge.
This is exactly what fitness provides, and more.
The Magic Happens Foundation brings trainers, fitness programs and education on fitness and nutrition to cancer patients worldwide. And it educates the families of cancer patients on how they can help.
